Pre-mastering

Pre-mastering is a bit of a misnomer. It is actually the stage after your master has been produced and simply ensures that the data on the master is in the correct format and structure for the first stage of disc replication – glass mastering.

The types of file structure used on CD are regulated by certain specifications, but as there are many CD formats so there are many specifications. Pre-mastering is the process by which the file structure is amended or corrected to comply with the regulations.

However, at ODM, we can do more. Our facilities allow us to perform final EQ balancing or PQ encoding for audio titles or to convert file formats completely from one type to another. We can also create multi-platform masters from single platform data, or add auto run features to any type of file.

Authoring

We can offer a full range of authoring service that include, for CD, enhanced-CD (Blue book), CD+G (karaoke CD), CD-I and CD-text.

For DVD, we can author both video and audio, including menu design, chapter breaks and special features.

We can also re-author data to meet Phillips Book standards (and hence ensure the quality and integrity of the data so all players and drives can read it). This can include repairing VCD start-up features or DVD menus as well as rectifying platform compatibility or file structure issues.
