DVD is the best media for video productions from small volume corporate video to large scale film releases. It can also be used for software and audio projects. It has a far greater storage capacity than other media types (25 times that of CD), holding anything from 4.7 to 17 gigabyte. As a premium product it lends itself to projects of great distinction and quality.
A DVD project can be as simple or as complex as you like, including content such interactive menus, chapter breaks, additional audio tracks, sub-titles, etc. You can even include ‘extras’ such as outtakes.
The replication process starts with a master tape (DLT usually) or DVD-R and through the use of laser beam technology and injection moulding your DVD project is pressed into shape.
With ODM, this process is simple, effective and precise.
We can produce the following DVD formats:
DVD 5
This is a single sided, single data layer (4.7GB) disc with print on one surface. It is produced by pressing two 0.6mm thick layers then gluing them together to make one 1.2mm thick disc, the bottom layer (layer 0) contains the data while the top layer (layer 1) acts as a dummy substrate.
This type of DVD can hold a standard movie (depending on the level of encoding) with a small amount of ‘extra’ features.

DVD 9
This is a single sided, dual data layers (8.5GB) disc with print on one surface. It is produced by pressing two 0.6mm thick layers then gluing them together to make one 1.2mm thick disc, the bottom layer (layer 0) contains the first half of data while the top layer (layer 1) contains the second half. The disc is read from one side only by re-focusing the pick up laser from the bottom to the top layer.
This is the standard format for movie releases as it can contain a significant amount of ‘extra’ material.

DVD 10
This is a double sided, dual data layers (9.4GB) disc with print only at the very centre (hub area) of the disc. This is produced by pressing two 0.6mm thick layers then gluing them together to make one 1.2mm thick disc. This type of disc is played one side at a time (like a vinyl record) and requires turning over in the player. Therefore, each side of data is self contained; effectively making it two DVD-5’s glued back to back.
It is usually used hold two separate items in one package, such as two movies in one case, etc, but can also be an effective data storage medium.

Copy Protection
CSS encryption is the industry standard protection system for DVD video content. It uses a hardware based system to scramble the data signal at the glass mastering stage which deters illegal copying.
We can offer this protection system for DVD, please get in touch for further details.
